Salem County Moving Forward with Emergency Services Coverage
The Salem County Board of Chosen Freeholder’s Director, Jack Kugler announced today that the county is finally moving forward on it’s plans to install additional communications equipment to address coverage issues for emergency responders in the western portion of the county. The project, which had been stalled until recently, includes the construction of a new cellular tower in Penns Grove and the attachment of related communications equipment aimed at providing additional coverage in areas that have been identified to have significant "dead spots". The Freeholder’s appropriated an additional $200,000 from the capital projects budget to finish this project. $380,000 of equipment has already been purchased and has been in storage awaiting the financial commitment to proceed with construction. Freeholder David Sparks will be taking the lead on the construction phase of the project, which is anticipated to be completed in May, pending approval from the FCC. The new Administration Committee looked over the list of capital projects late last week and after prioritizing, decided that the most more important issue on it’s list this year is the safety and well-being of our emergency responders who put their lives on the line for us each and every day.
