SALEM COUNTY VETERANS' CEMETERY BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT UNDERWAY

PILESGROVE -- Beautification of the Salem County Veterans' Cemetery begins tomorrow morning (Thursday, 9 a.m.) with the planting of 33 trees, Freeholder Director Dave Sparks announced today. Students from the agriculture program at Penns Grove-Carneys Point School District will assist in the planting of the maples, magnolias, and oaks.

"This new tree line will provide a serene background for the hallowed ground honoring our County’s veterans," said Freeholder Mike Facemyer, who was instrumental in receiving a grant to fund the project. "The beautification project was part of the Freeholder’s dedication of additional ground to expand the Veterans’ Cemetery last year."

In December, the County successfully applied for a $10,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Community Forestry Program. The County’s match was in the form of in-kind services. The Salem County Veteran's Cemetery is alongside State Route 45 on the border of Mannington and Pilesgrove townships.
