COUNTY VETERANS CEMETERY WINS TREE BEAUTIFICATION GRANT
SALEM Salem County will receive a $7,500 state grant to beautify the new addition to the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, it was announced today by Dave Sparks, Freeholder Director.
Pin Oaks, Magnolias, and Red Sunset Maple trees will be planted along the edges of the two and one-half acres that were recently dedicated to expand the Veterans Cemetery.
"The trees will provide an aesthetic buffer between the cemetery and the County Road Department and will blend the new acre with the original four and one-half acres," said Freeholder Director Dave Sparks.
"The beautification of these grounds will reflect the homage we pay to those Salem County men and women who served our Country well," said Sparks. "We are very excited about this project. High school students from the Future Farmers of America will volunteer their time to help landscape the cemetery."
The tree planting will begin in the Spring.
More that 120 organizations applied to the Department of Environmental Protection for the New Jersey Tree Planting Grant. Salem County was one of 80 applicants selected to receive funding.
