SALEM COUNTY BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS
AUGUST 15, 2001 MEETING MINUTES
At 07:35 P.M. Director C. David Sparks, Jr. opened the meeting and stated that the meeting was in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act. The Pledge of Allegiance followed a moment of silence.
On roll call, the following Freeholders were present: Charles R. Sullivan, Lee R. Ware, Michael H. Facemyer, R. Benjamin Simmermon, Jr., John A. Kugler, Susan A. Bestwick and C. David Sparks, Jr. A quorum was present.
Motion was made by Mr. Kugler that the reading of the Minutes of the last regular meeting be dispensed with and that the Minutes be received, approved and recorded in the Minute Book. Mr. Facemyer seconded his motion, which motion was carried by a hand vote of 7/0.

R.2001-357 Resolution Providing for the Insertion of Any Special Item of Revenue in the Budget Pursuant R.S. 40A:4-87, Chapter 159, P.L. 1948 ($1,118,079 - Board of Elections Voting Equipment)
Mrs. Bestwick moved for adoption of these two resolutions, with Mr. Sullivan seconding her motion. Mrs. Bestwick commented that the State came through and funded the purchase of the voting equipment. Mr. John Burke, Election Board Chairman, said that Election Board members worked together to find and test superior equipment. He said that the purchase was fully funded by the State and thanked Mrs. Bestwick for her support. Mrs. Bestwick said that a great deal of time was spent evaluating voting machines. She said the selected company, Sequoia, is the only company that has had equipment in a real election. She finished by saying the State decision to fund the equipment purchase came today at 5:05 PM with the caveat that the equipment be used in the November election. Mr. Facemyer asked Chairman Burke if he had any new space requirements. Chairman Burke said that the planned space was the same and that Sequoia Company will help the County work the election. On roll call, the motion for adoption of the foregoing resolutions carried a hand vote of 7/0.

MOTION TO ADJOURN The Freeholder Board reconvened the Public Session at 8:11 P.M. Motion was made by Mr. Kugler to adjourn the meeting, with Mr. Facemyer seconding. There being no questions on the motion, all Freeholders rose for a 7/0 vote. The meeting adjourned at 8:13 P.M.
